Duncan Coral (Duncanopsammia)

Bring beautiful movement and vibrant color to your reef aquarium with the Duncan Coral! This popular Large Polyp Stony (LPS) coral is known for its long, flowing tentacles, bright green centers, and stunning flower-like appearance that adds life and personality to any reef tank.

Duncan Corals feature large, fleshy polyps with beautiful green oral discs surrounded by delicate tentacles that gently sway with the water flow. Their unique appearance makes them a fantastic addition to mixed reefs, LPS gardens, and beginner-friendly coral collections.

Known for their hardy nature, excellent feeding response, and relatively easy care requirements, Duncan Corals are a favorite among both beginner and experienced reef keepers. With proper care, they can develop additional heads over time, gradually forming beautiful branching colonies.

Whether you're starting your first reef aquarium or looking to add a colorful, flowing centerpiece to an established tank, the Duncan Coral is an excellent choice!

Care Requirements

  • Care Level: Easy to Moderate

  • Lighting (PAR): 75–150

  • Water Flow: Low to Moderate

  • Placement: Bottom to Middle of Aquarium

  • Temperament: Generally Peaceful, but allow room for polyp expansion

  • Feeding: Photosynthetic, benefits from occasional target feeding with mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or other small meaty coral foods

  • Growth Rate: Moderate

  • Ideal Temperature: 75–79°F

  • Salinity: 1.024–1.026 SG

  • pH: 8.1–8.4

  • Alkalinity: 8–12 dKH

  • Calcium: 400–450 ppm

  • Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm

Helpful Tip: Duncan Corals have an excellent feeding response! Occasional target feeding can support healthy growth and encourage the development of new heads. Avoid placing them in strong, direct water flow that could damage their delicate tentacles.

Please Note: Each coral is unique. Coloration, size, number of heads, and polyp extension may vary depending on lighting, aquarium conditions, and individual specimens.
