02 / Give them room to settle

It’s been a big day.
Let the reef slow down.

Travel and handling can stress new arrivals. Hiding, faded color, or closed polyps can happen while they adjust. Keep things quiet and avoid repeatedly moving them.

A few small things that matter.

Does every animal need the same acclimation time?

No. Species, transport time, temperature, and salinity differences change the plan. Use the animal’s care instructions and the supplier’s shipping guidance. If the water differs significantly, call us before transferring.

Should shipping water go into my aquarium?

Discard transport water after transfer. For animals that must stay submerged, use an appropriate container and minimize water carried over.

What if my new arrival looks unwell?

Rapid breathing, loss of balance, or worsening condition needs prompt attention. Check temperature, salinity, ammonia, and oxygenation in the receiving system, and contact us. Do not assume every change is normal settling behavior.

Is acclimation the same as quarantine?

No. Acclimation helps with the transition between water conditions. A suitable separate quarantine system helps you observe new arrivals before introducing them to your established reef.
